The Monster at the End of this Book
Curly has been having nightmares since we moved house. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a new house or if it’s because he’s watching or reading something that does not appear to scare him when awake but only scares in his dreams. But it’s only been happening since we moved.
He’s been coming to our bed around midnight each night. Last night he was saying things out loud in his sleep next to me, including a long “Nooooo!”
When he wakes up and comes to our bed he doesn’t appear upset or anything. He just casually climbs into bed and goes back to sleep. Deep sleep!
Is it anxiety? Not sure.
I found this article at KidSpot and there are some good points there, I need to eliminate certain activities or change them. E.g. change his bedtime story book The Cat in the Hat and what he’s watching – The Land Before Time – even if they are his favourites.
Because of his speech delay Curly is unable to tell us what the problem is. So eliminating stuff sounds like the best approach for now. We’ll see how things go.
How else do you deal with nightmares? Do you have any tips for me?

Do you think he might be catching glimpses of TV shows that you guys watch? When I was a kid, I sometimes would walk into the TV room and see movies or TV programs that my parents were watching that would freak me out. I remember one episode of MacGyver that I saw a few minutes of back in the day with an “aging woman” and it gave me nightmares for weeks afterwards…maybe even years! Poor Curly. Hope he soon forgets whatever it is that it causing the nightmares!

Mmm I’m not sure. Most of the time we only watch our programs once he’s gone to bed. I will see tonight if that’s the case or not. Poor you with McGyver’s aging woman. Must have been creepy!
