So I spoke with my boss about changing my work hours so that I can get to the school on time to collect Curly at 3pm from kindy. Curly goes Mon-Wed and the Scientist and I are sharing… he drops Curly off in the morning and I pick him up at the end of the day.
My boss is a man with a young family and he is very understanding. I’m his personal assistant and I also provide support to 3 others. He welcomed my decision to put my son first and he managed to talk the CEO into accepting our decision.
I’m thankful for having a very understanding boss and I’m glad I wasn’t too afraid to ask. I gave it a go because my family means the world to me. I didn’t want to chuck my son into after school care unless absolutely necessary. My boss and his boss didn’t threaten me that it’s either full time or the door, nor did he make it difficult for me to approach him.
So now I will start an hour early, I take a shorter break (but to me it’s not worth taking breaks) as I now finish at 1.30pm. I need a total of 1.5 hours travelling time to collect Curly. The teachers can be grumpy if you get there at 3.05pm! So I’m doing the best that I can to be there on time.
I’m now happy and no longer feeling guilty about leaving home early. YAY!

That’s awesome! Hurray for understanding bosses! I can’t believe it takes you 1.5 hours to drive to your son’s school. You must be so exhausted by the day’s end.

Yes, I take bus-train-car from work. Sux. But I love the extra time with him, hey.

Good on you for putting your family first. And good on your boss for going into bat for you. Hope it works out well

Thanks. It’s a little tricky… but I love going home early now. I just love seeing my boy!
